Reindeer Food

Fun with Food?

My kids have made Reindeer Food many different times in the past, so I thought it would be a fun craft for my middle daughter's kindergarten Christmas party craft. After some research for the 'best recipe' I found that it's not advisable to use glitter, because it can cause injury to animals if they eat it. Also - when glitter is used, it makes it very hard to sweep completely away on Christmas Eve when the reindeer 'eat it' and this I know from experience. You can make the recipe as simple or difficult as you'd like, and you can make the container very fancy or simple. Since the kids did this, the decoration for this batch was the ingredients themselves and a little printed card with a fun poem.

Supplies:
1 Jar (we used small jelly jars because a mom offered them for free)
Card with Poem, written below
1/2 cup of oatmeal, divided in two parts
1 T of green sugar
1 T of white sugar
1 T of red sugar *all found on the baking isle
1 Jumbo Marshmallow

Directions:
Layer ingredients in cup as follows:
1/4 cup of oats
1 T of green sugar
1 T of white sugar
1 T of red sugar
1/4 cup of oats
1 Jumbo Marshmallow
Close Lid & tie the ribbon with the poem attached. I will say I did the marshmallow for fun (the kids can eat it while sprinkling food on Christmas Eve), but you could always add more oats instead!
